Product scope
and document selection criteria
The construction industry is enormously varied.
To meet the specialist needs of users from such a wide range of disciplines,
the RIBA.IHSti Construction Information Service is offered in sections so
that customers may mix and match to create the information resource they
need.
We begin with the Core Service, which is the basic service.
Optional sections cover supplementary material; they are not available
separately from the Core Service.
Core service for key data
The starting point is inclusion of documents cited

Building Supplement - which adds to Core
- Documents that assist complex building and landscape
design.
- Non-statutory guidance documents complementing those
in CIS Core covering statutory aspects of design, e.g. fire.
- Building and energy conservation.
- Building interior design.
- Sustainable building.
Civil & Structural Engineering Supplement - which
adds to Core
- Complex structural design, repair and maintenance
not within the normal remit of the architect or contractor.
- Advanced highway and bridge design and construction.
- Complex groundworks.
- Marine, coastal, river and flood engineering.

Basic library selection criteria
The service seeks to balance the use of a library offering broad coverage
with the cost of making documents available. CIS is a package product
of current and maintained documents sold to thousands of customers. We
do not aim to provide a bespoke library for each customer.
CIS includes – wherever possible and subject to
necessary copyright approval – legislation, design guidance, and
technical standards. We do not cover documents on power stations, railways,
offshore petrochemical plant or construction plant, though safe use documents
may be included.
We do not cover classification publications, terminologies,
definitions, glossaries, nomenclatures, or documents on terms and symbols.
Customer requests
We welcome feedback on our document selection, although we do not guarantee
to be able to add documents recommended by users
